I Went To Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Twice: Here’s Why It Was Unforgettable

Never in my wildest dreams could my 9-year-old self have imagined this. If I were to rewind to when I lived in a small Italian town most people have never heard of, sometime in 2007, flipping the channel to MTV and watching ‘Our Song’ for the very first time, I’d say it all led to this.
I learned all the words to its chorus and bridge in no time and looked forward to the bedazzled guitar scenes. That little kid had no clue that one day when she was old enough to pay bills and make big girl grand life choices, she’d be dancing the night away at The Eras Tour. Not just once, but twice!

My sister and I fought the good fight most Swifties did last year to try to secure tickets for The Eras Tour. We drew up our sleeves, clenched our fists, sharpened our claws and somehow managed to secure tickets for the last stop of the Europe shows in London. It definitely wasn’t easy, but it pre-destined (…or I like to think so).
It was set – I was going to see Taylor Swift live and my excitement remained unconfined for months and months.

We chose our outfits, booked a hotel for four nights, bought a direct train from Manchester to London, grabbed our friendship bracelets and prepared to have the dreamiest nights of our lives. So… did The Eras tour live up to my expectations? What’s The Eras Tour truly like? Who were the opening acts? Here’s how it went:

Firstly, I had never seen Taylor perform in a concert before. I only started going to concerts just two years ago really, and while I’ve made up for the lost time by going to many since, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour was the peak of my concert ‘dream list’. As a result, I did my best to avoid everything Eras Tour-related. Trending videos, stage outfits, or song sequences.  I wanted to experience the show in its magnificence for the first time in person. It certainly wasn’t easy to avoid the online frenzy. Thankfully, I gladly made it to Wembley Stadium without a dictionary knowledge of the three-hour show’s highlights.

The tickets I snagged were a few days apart from each other. On the first night, Suki Waterhouse and Paramore performed. And on the last night of the London shows in addition to Paramore, Raye also took the stage.
After queuing under the beautiful sunny sky – rare for London – with other Swifties who were dressed to the nines, we made our way to our seats. By then Suki Waterhouse was already halfway through her set. I wasn’t familiar with Suki Waterhouse but enjoyed getting acquainted with her music.

Paramore, however, I was beyond ecstatic to see live. As a kid who grew up exposed to rock bands because of my elder siblings, Paramore was more than a little warm-up before the main event. I had a whole phase where I was “obsessed” with their discography and played it 24/7. While that phase might have dialled down over the years, it never fully ended. Therefore, screaming out the words to ‘Hard Times’ and ‘Still Into You’ was the release I needed and the perfect match to kick things off.
Hayley Williams brings such an intense energy on stage that rubs off on the audience. Her vocal runs are simply out of this world. My sister and I locked eyes several times in awe of her performance. Frankly, Paramore was unreal!

When it came to Raye’s special performance on the final night, it was indeed just that – special. Her years of experience as an artist shines through when she’s on stage. As a fan of her music even before the release of her record-breaking album, ‘My 21st Century Blues’, it’s been so cool to watch her bloom artistically. All the opening acts at The Eras Tour set the stage for what was to come.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Recap.

As the clock on the giant screen began the countdown to my dreams come true, I was ready to be transported back to the many eras of my life Taylor’s songs were the soundtrack to. The songs that saw me through life and captured my candid feelings in three-minute guitar-led tunes. The songs my high school friends and I sang at the top of our lungs. Those songs that taught me about heartbreak and felt like heartbreak itself. The lyrics that made me want to pick up a pen of my own and paint vivid words on a blank space. Needless to say, I was ready. But – was I…? I was indeed so ready for it!

“It’s you and me”, Taylor sang as she emerged onto the stage to cheers and applause from an eager crowd ready to scream all the words to ‘Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince’. I counted days and miles to be there in that moment… to live through all of the Eras – starting with Lover!

It’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen; witnessing 92.000 people coming together each night to share something so magical for a time of their life. It was like going down memory lane with a bunch of strangers. Different roads. Uneven paths. But somehow, meeting at the same crossroads to capture a memory that will last for a lifetime.

As we travelled from era to era the scale just got bigger and bigger. Although it was an August evening, we saw it go from autumn to the first fall of snow when she performed the entire 10-minute version of ‘All Too Well’. We were invited into the Folklore cabin where she combined songs from the sister albums, Folklore and Evermore. So there we were going from ‘Cardigan’ and ‘My Tears Ricochet’ to ‘Champagne Problems’ and ‘Marjorie’. Flashing lights, impressive outfit changes, flames and surprise appearances. There simply was nothing missing.
The Eras Tour was the right amount of dramatic, nostalgic and epic.

Surprise songs at The Eras Tour.

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour holds a tradition most fans look forward to. It’s the part in between eras where she pulls out a guitar and performs a surprise song for the fans. Because I was lucky to experience the show twice, I also got to experience more than one surprise song.

One of them was a personal favourite of mine from the Reputation era. I would have never guessed Taylor would sing ‘I Did Something Bad’ but there we were singing all the ra-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta’s in the chorus. In perfect unison. And of course… it felt so good!

On the last night of The Eras Tour in London Taylor pulled out all the stops. The crowd roared when Florence + The Machine graced the stage to perform ‘Florida!!!’. But the surprises didn’t stop there!

Jack Antonoff also unexpectedly appeared to play a mashup of fan favourites they wrote together like ‘Getaway Car’ and ‘Death By A Thousand Cuts’. Lastly, she surprised us with a song she’d never performed live. Ever! A rare but perfect occasion to perform ‘So Long London’. As the crowd echoed all the words, it was clear that I wasn’t the only one who prayed she’d bring it to life on stage.

Final Thoughts On The Taylor Swift Concert Experience.

I knew then with certainty that I’d remember the moment in the back of my mind. The Eras Tour was an immersive experience. The breaks in between the three-hour show were impressively short. There was not one moment I wanted to miss. The whole experience was magical, surreal and undoubtedly worth the wait!

Taylor Swift is a master at her craft. Every stare, every note and every single move is by design. Attending the show twice confirmed what I already knew was true. Maybe she is indeed a mastermind
