Eating At Spicy & Tasty Chinese Restaurant In Manchester | Review

It was a hesitant yet unanimous decision we all made to step into the unfamiliar restaurant in the busy area of Manchester City. Maybe, it was because we were running out of time and options after not being able to get into our first two choices. A lesson learnt the hard way to always book a reservation before stepping out for dinner on a rainy Saturday night.
At that point, we needed shelter from the disturbing rain and more importantly, we were starved for food.
Standing in front of a black sign that read Spice & Tasty Chinese Restaurant, it wasn’t difficult to decide to taste something new…
The interior.
Upon entry, we were greeted by three staff members and were quickly invited to take a seat at a table that was directly facing the doors we had just come through.
The restaurant had a very familiar and classic Chinese restaurant look.
Covered with red and white tablecloths, each table had a mini bowl and plate set as well as a pair of chopsticks. The room was well-lit by bright lantern-style ceiling lights and the interior was overall neat and inviting. “A good start“, I thought to myself.

The dishes.

We were handed two menus when we got comfortable in our seats. One was a paper menu with what I assumed were the “most wanted” dishes. The second was in the form of a big black book and featured an even wider variety of meals to pick from. Frankly, the variety of options was overwhelming for me who was a first-timer in Spicy & Tasty Chinese Restaurant. After what seemed like an eternity trying to decide what to get and waiters passing by our table twice to ask if we were ready, we finally made our order.

Vegetarian Spring Rolls
Prawn Dumplings
Boiled Pork Dumplings
King Prawn Fried Udon With XO Sauce
Braised Pork Trotters In Brown Sauce
Fried Prawn Balls In Chilli Sauce
Noodles With Diced Chicken
Fried Rice With Diced Seafood In XO Sauce
When it comes to the food, for the most part, we all enjoyed our meal. The star of the night was easily the Boiled Pork Dumplings as we all agreed it tasted the best out of everything.
I judge most Chinese restaurants by how good their Vegetable Spring Rolls are, and I was glad they passed the test.
I ordered the Noodles with Diced Chicken and whilst I did enjoy it, it was definitely a lot bigger than I expected it to be. In the end, I ended up having to take half of it home with me. I also picked the Fried Prawn Balls In Chilli Sauce which we all shared, but sadly wasn’t a big fan of the taste.

Will I Return To Spicy & Tasty Chinese Restaurant?
Although we initially didn’t plan to go to Spicy & Tasty Chinese Restaurant, we ended up having a lovely evening there. The service we were given was great and the staff members were friendly too.
Whilst the food was generally good, I won’t say my mind was particularly blown by it either. As I stated already, the menu presents an overwhelming amount of choice, and therefore, I feel, a second or third visit might be worth it for sure. I’m a curious cat!
