When In Rome

Revisiting Rome as an adult was one of the many places I couldn’t wait to tick on my travel bucket list. Despite growing up in northern Italy during my most formative years, I visited Rome only once as a child. It was one of the first trips we took as a family after our big relocation and I recall the excitement was palpable.
I couldn’t have been more than 10 years old then, but I already loved roaming around big cities I’d never been to before. With time, each year became entangled with another, and the whole trip quickly became one giant blur. I’ve always wondered: “What is Rome truly like? How does it differ from my faint memory? How does it differ from other cities in Italy?”
Well, they say when in Rome, do as the Romans do and I decided I’d most certainly try when I recently returned to Italy for a friend’s wedding…
I booked a train ticket, packed my bag, grabbed my sister for good company, and headed to the Italian capital for a couple of days.

I spent my days roaming restlessly through the city as I’m known to do. While I tend to travel with a bit of a list of hot spots I’d love to hit, I’m not opposed to changing plans and steering in different directions. So we did exactly that; a little bit of aimless exploring and planned excursions.
As expected, Rome is rich in culture, history, and art – there was no shortage of things to do, places to go to or food to eat. The food was exquisite as to be expected. I’m certain I had so many carbs, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say I was made of 97% PASTA at that point.
When darkness fell, we spent our nights in two different hotels while visiting Rome. First, we spent a few nights at TH Roma Carpegna Palace Hotel. Then towards the end of our time in Rome, we moved to the Crowne Plaza Hotel (hotel reviews coming soon). Honestly, there was no interesting reason we changed hotel, except my sister and I couldn’t decide on one while scrolling endlessly through booking.com. So, we gave up on trying to. Why choose I guess…?

Although I grew up in Italy for many years, I never get bored of exploring the soul of each city. Actually, it’s still my favourite country to visit yearly and Rome was no different.
When in Rome, you spend a lot of time travelling through the metro station. You eat to your heart’s content until there’s no space left. You might get lost a little or a lot if you have no sense of direction like me. Then you find your way again. When in Rome, you hold on to your precious belongings like your life depends on it, otherwise, they get snatched. When in Rome, you capture all the wonder, culture and art you behold with a camera, but even that might not do it justice. You just have to be there…

Your restless romantic roamer
Looks like a fun trip! I know I would enjoy Italy (if I ever get the chance to go) as I’m a pasta girl myself x
