Bitesize Wonders 35

Something tells me I’ll be remembering this past week for a very long time. It gave me pause and a little shock to my system. Maybe, I’m being a bit dramatic, but it’s not every day you meet your favourite singer a couple of steps away from home. An ultimate unexpected Bitesize Wonder
After I hit publish on the blog post last Sunday, I went through a day I hoped would be fun but didn’t expect would go all that far off from my imagination. I expected loud laughs, great company, beautiful sights to behold and delicious food to devour in one go. Those were the things listed on my calendar, and the very reason I was excited to step out the door. They were the Bitesize Wonders I was ready to grab a hold of and not let go. They were the kind of simple joys I was ready to catch and trap on a page. The type that offers a much-needed break from the routine of the heavy work day. The type my mind escapes to when daydreaming is much more exciting than real life. Little did I know real life was about to be just as exciting as my dreams…

The day did end up going way far beyond my imagination for it. It was on my way home, only a few minutes away that I met one of my favourite artists, Sunmi. Seeing her live for the first time in August wasn’t enough, I guess. Fate had more hands left to play. I, on the other hand, was happy to be surprised.

By now, you already know the full story on how I accidentally met my favourite K-pop idol. That moment felt like a blur once it was over; a ‘pinch me’ moment that feels like a dream even after the sting.

My week went on as normal. There were moments I’d catch myself smiling for no reason at all. No, I guess there was a reason, it just felt unreal. When her music video played ‘up next’ on YouTube, I’d look in wonder and think back at how a few days ago, I was hugging her in front of a camera behind which her entourage waited patiently.
I returned to work the next morning a little more joyful than the last time I clocked off. I dealt with rude customers and enjoyed reading on grey afternoons and multiple cups of tea during the day. After all, I found Bitesize Wonders in the mundane again and was happy with that too.

What am I trying to say here?

Every week I come to you with a list of moments that made my day more beautiful. I share moments of pure joy that make me even one ounce happy. Happier. More excited for the days ahead. I’ve been very intentional about celebrating little moments of magic as much as I have big milestones and life-changing moments. When I woke up that morning, I didn’t expect to have such a rare encounter. I wasn’t expecting anything out of the ordinary.

Today, there’s no fully fleshed-out list. I just thought I’d leave you with a thought instead.
Sometimes you need something crazy unexpected to happen to you to remind you the world still can surprise you. Sometimes an interruption to the everyday mundane is necessary to remind you, there’s much still out of your control or expectations.

I guess, I needed a surprise. I needed a reminder that the unexpected can actually happen.

In the last few years, I’ve been living in what has felt like a cycle of predictable events. And perhaps, that made me feel even more stuck in one place. Meeting my favourite celebrity in my backyard won’t change my life in the grand scheme of things, I know that for certain.
It did, however, remind me that anything can happen. It’s a simple truth I had obviously forgotten.

Go out this week expecting more. Your wildest dreams can happen to you. There’s a bolder life to be lived when you believe everything is possible. I’ll be remembering that as I go through the new week.
